With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas looming ahead, holiday pounds are either imminent in your future or you’re still working to shed them. Coupled with cold winters which equals dark, somber early mornings and vacations which equals odd gym hours, sometimes the gym just cant or wont cut it in favor of sleeping in or just grabbing some rare quality time with friends and family. But every PYNK girl knows staying fit is as important as your career and your loved ones. So, I’ve compiled a list of 6 fun winter workouts that can be done at any time of the day:

1. Go sledding

Sleigh- riding is a fun, calorie- burning way of getting your winter workout in. The hour or so you spend outside with your homegirls/family etc just acting a fool, sledding downhill and trudging back up can burn 250 plus calories.

2. Yoga

Yoga is a great way of releasing stress and something you can do indoors, all you need is a quiet room. There are ample instructional yoga websites out there that can show you simple beginning stuff like sun salutations all the way to more complicated poses.

3. Shopping

Every PYNK girl knows how to stay fly and you can stay fit and fly with some holiday shopping. Walking up and down the mall for even two hours, not to mention breaking a minor sweat trying on all those damn clothes, can burn upwards of 300 calories! So don’t sweat it, shop it!

4.  Ice Skating

Not only is ice- skating a great cardio workout, it’s also a great workout. Skate around for just 30 minutes and I bet you those calves will be burning something serious! Push yourself and see if you can last an hour, and bring friends so that you don’t feel like you’re working out but just having fun.

5. Make snow angels

You’re probably thinking, “I’m a grown ass woman in these streets, cant be out here making snow angels” but just stop a second. Wrap your hair up, put on a hat and head to your local park and give it a try before you knock it. It’s a great arm and thigh workout- kind of like jumping jacks- and its fun! Either that or you can grab some snowshoes and take a walk through your local park’s winter wonderland.

6. Do some quick intervals indoors

Though you might not be able to make it to a gym you can still do a 15-30 minute interval workout indoors. Hollywood Trainer Jeanette Jenkins recommends 2 sets of 25 reps for toning purposes or 3 sets of 15 reps for maintenance toning. So grab a set of weights and do some work on your biceps and triceps, do squats, push- ups, various crunch variations. Remember there are tons of fitness- centered sites online that suggest great different interval workouts, just type “interval workouts” into Google and I guarantee you’ll get a junkload of hits.

Any other winter workouts you PYNK ladies have in mind? Don’t hesitate to let us know! Stay fit, ladies!
