Ask Pat! – The Post-Workout Hair Dilemma
PYNK reader Tricia raised a hair question that so many of us have but can never find a solution for. Keep reading below to see what PYNK‘s Beauty Director Pat Sumpter-Davis has to say.
Q. My hair is relaxed and I exercise about five days a week. What is the best way to manage my hair if I work out this often and my hair is drenched with sweat after every cardio exercise? I usually wash and condition my hair every two to three days due to the sweat but I blow dry and curl it and I’m concerned about heat damage. Are there other solutions besides braids or a weave?
Pat Says: Tricia, this is a very common question and an ongoing issue for many women.
First, I would like to commend you for making a commitment to exercise five days a week! Many people forget that a consistent fitness routine is important to achieving your best overall look.
With respect to your question, unfortunately, there’s no easy solution. If your hair is drenched with sweat after workouts, your options are limited. One option is to wear a style that’s conducive to your active lifestyle such as a natural style, braids, or extensions. However, if you use heat to style your hair, and are concerned about damage, I recommend using a thermal protector such as Carol’s Daughter Heat Styling System. A thermal protector will protect your hair from damage due to excessive heat. It’s important to keep your hair healthy, while working to stay fit.

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is something that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this during my search for something regarding this.
