F.I.L.F ….. Introducing @Rotimi
It’s Friday. Finally! We’ve survived the week and now its time to chill out with the girls, catch up over drinks, dance the night away and maybe snag a cutie in the process. In the spirit of good times, we at PYNK wanted to give you a little eye candy to drool over and tell your girls about. We’d like to introduce you to singer/model/actor @Rotimi and officially induct him into the Fellas I’d Like to … Hall of Fame.
WHO IS ROTIMI? Like the character Darius he plays on the Starz network series, Boss, Rotimi is a hustler – but in the nontraditional sense of the word. The singer/songwriter, actor and model, simply known as Ro, is working triple time – using his current success on the small screen to fuel his dreams.
On set of his current photoshoot – a sunlit loft in Brooklyn’s Forte Greene neighborhood – the gaze of onlookers and the sharp click click of several cameras don’t seem to faze Rotimi who is the center of attention. His movements are effortless as he gets into character, portraying a typical Saturday morning with a lady friend. “This was all a dream a few years ago,” he reflects in between takes as a make-up artist touches up his brow.
At 22, his life has changed dramatically from a year ago. He landed his first acting gig right out of college and has been on his grind ever since. Besides starring in the Golden Globe winning original cable series alongside T.I. and Sanaa Lathan, his vocals are featured on a major motion picture soundtrack and he is in the midst of recording an album. While Rotimi has much to be thankful for, this seems to only be the beginning for him.
“I was taught that if you really work hard you can definitely get you anything you want,” he remarks.
Hard work, persistence and humility are what have gotten Rotimi this far. Music is his first love. At 15, he competed at New York’s famed Apollo Theatre and won. At 17, he performed for Jay-Z who told him that if he worked at his craft, he’d be a star by 23. Sounds like Jay might have a bit of Miss Cleo in him, as it seems Rotimi, who counts TI and Jamie Foxx among his mentors, is on the cusp of stardom.
